Hayes Nature Preserve Center
Huntsville, AL: A complete turnkey project featuring a sloped 6:12 pitch greenroof; blended and installed bioretention soils; and grade landscaping.
What could me more perfect than a nature center greenroof at one of Huntsville’s biggest parklands? Requirements included soil that could retain tremendous amounts of water, which also meant selecting plants and flowers that could tolerate a saturated environment. But it’s the story behind the nature center that really stands out to us—the Hayes family donated the land and the funding for the center, based on the mother’s wishes to establish a place of learning where children could interact with and enjoy nature the way she did when she was young. Now schools travel to the center to learn about sustainability and preservation. In fact, the learning center is a LEED-certified school that uses sustainable materials.
